WHAT HAPPENED?
Gomez joined Manchester City in the summer of 2022 and made a solid start to the 2022-23 season as a substitute for Joao Cancelo. However, as the season passed, his importance in the squad dwindled and a number of injuries meant he was no longer a part of Guardiola's plan. After making just six Premier League appearances last season, the Spaniard has now left the club for Imanol Alguacil's side.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Real Sociedad have paid €10 million (£8.3m/$10.9m) with a 30% sell-on clause to sign the 23-year-old former La Masia graduate. He made 38 appearances for the eight-time Premier League winners and won three straight league titles and a Champions League. He also praised Guardiola following his departure.

WHAT GOMEZ SAID
Speaking to the media, Gomez said, per BBC Sport: "Being part of such a talented, ambitious and successful squad was a true honour and winning a host of major trophies, including the Treble, is something I will never forget and will always look back fondly on.
"I am excited for this new adventure but I wish Pep Guardiola and the players every success in the future."
